Katie’s love for hockey was matched only by her deep affection for her teammates and friends. She was not only a skilled player but also an inspiring and supportive teammate who consistently encouraged others to strive for excellence. Katie’s passion for the team’s success went beyond performance on the ice—she worked tirelessly to foster positive team dynamics and always sought to uplift those around her. Through her dedication and unwavering positivity, Katie earned the respect of her teammates and established a lasting legacy as a true team player.
Katie’s commitment to empowering others extended beyond the rink. Having faced her own challenges, she became passionate about helping girls recognize their inner strength and build the confidence to protect themselves. Katie was driven by the belief that every girl should know they have the resources and support to seek help if they find themselves in dangerous or unsafe situations. For Katie, this included sexual assault. She was determined to ensure that her perpetrator would never hurt anyone else and wanted to make sure that no one else had to endure what she had. She encouraged girls to use their voices, advocate for themselves, and stand up for one another.
Tragically, Katie’s life was cut short when she was killed in an auto crash. Despite her passing, her legacy continues to inspire those who knew her and those who carry on her work.
This event honors Katie’s vision for empowering female athletes and continues her work. Proceeds from the event go towards scholarships for female athletes and donations to the Diane Peppler Resource Center. By fostering a spirit of friendly competition and camaraderie, we create a space for female hockey players to build strong networks where they feel supported and safe, with the tools and resources they need to seek help when necessary.
Katie’s motto was simple: “Girl, we gotta talk.” Through this event, we carry forward her message of empowerment and support, ensuring her legacy continues to inspire and protect future generations.
